When do baby teeth come in, and when do they fall out?

What happens during the teething process?

Teething usually begins around 6 months of age, although in some children it may occur slightly earlier or later.
A full set of baby teeth (20 teeth) usually appears by around age 3. The order in which they erupt may vary, but most often it starts with the lower incisors and ends with the second molars.

When do baby teeth fall out?

The process of tooth replacement usually begins between ages 5 and 7.
First, the lower incisors fall out, followed by the upper ones, and then the other teeth. The entire process takes several years and usually ends around age 12, when all baby teeth have been replaced by permanent teeth.

Why is baby tooth hygiene so important?

Many parents believe that since baby teeth will fall out anyway, there’s no need to take special care of them. That’s a mistake!
Baby teeth play a key role in the proper development of the masticatory system, shaping speech, and maintaining space for permanent teeth.
That is why it is important to ensure their daily hygiene, regular tooth brushing, and check-ups with a pediatric dentist.

If tooth decay appears on baby teeth, it must be treated as soon as possible. Removing a baby tooth too early can lead to malocclusion and problems with the eruption of permanent teeth.
